2012 Mayan Resurrection

The above is the title of the oil pastel drawing which I made in Merida, Yucatan, in early 2006 during the second of two consecutive winter visits.

Yucatan is home to a part of the stone remains of the Mayan Master builders. There are hundreds of these sacred structures, astounding in their vast size and complexity, and always oriented to highly accurate astronomical observations.

In my drawing one sees an unoccupied ruined stone structure sinking into the earth. This is on the left at the foot of the sacred glyph t. which has a corollary meaning of “tree of life,” or a rebirth arising out of a calamitous ending of an age. Here we see also a resurging of the feminine aspect infused by moon energies.

On the right standing on the live green flowering earth we see a worshiping male figure aligned with the sun, which itself comes out of the hierarchy of the heavens represented here as a rainbow. The long divided shape within the rainbow is the Mayan glyph for the Milky Way, supposed birthplace of humanity.

From my studies of the still mysterious Mayans I found information indicating that the ending of the Mayan calendar at the year 2012 coincides with their prophecy of world wide destruction and calamity, out of which comes another cycle of the raising of the consciousness level of humanity.

This is the intended meaning of the “2012 Mayan Resurrection” drawing.
